How many grab bars do I need for my shower or bath and where should I place them?
Last Updated: 03/29/2013

We often suggest the placement of 1, or even 2 or 3 grab bars at the entrance point to the shower (perhaps one placed vertically just outside the shower, and the other placed vertically, immediately inside the shower. In cases where the individual demonstrates limited balance or strength, a third bar is sometimes placed horizontally on that same entrance wall to further assist stepping in or out of the shower. On the far wall of the shower we usually suggest a longer bar placed horizontally or sometimes diagonally (especially if the individual is seated and requires assistance in getting up into standing).
